WebThey tried to put a new one in but apparently my cervical canal is curved and tapers off so they were able to get metal tools through to measure the uterus but not the plastic applicator for the IUD. They suggested coming back and taking misoprostol two hours before my appointment to soften/dilate the cervix to make the process easier. WebThis medication helps the cervix become softer and a little more open, allowing the IUD inserter to slide into the cervical canal more easily. You will feel some cramping during this portion of the procedure, which is very quick. I was certainly glad I had taken the cytotec beforehand as well!
